The Future Kept: Sustainable & ethical products for the home

One of the reasons I started this slow living blog was to encourage you all to make ethically conscious decisions. We all love to treat ourselves to new things occasionally but embracing slow living doesn’t mean ditching the enjoyment of shopping. It’s about making better choices when you do want to treat yourself or your home. That’s why you must discover The Future Kept for yourselves!

Why sustainable products and The Future Kept?

If you are familiar with Green & the Great, you will know that as a young adult, I used to spend most of my time and savings shopping from high street stores. Not only did I waste money, I was also contributing to the throw away nature that so many of us are guilty of, and therefore creating more waste and damaging our environment. I wish had I had been more educated back then, as I know I would I have made changes much sooner had I been. But better late than never they say, and it’s not too late for you either!

If you make one small change this year, then choose to ditch the high street stores and enjoy finding new products from independent makers, The Future Kept makes it so easy and enjoyable too! Okay, so that pair of Primark shoes may only cost £15, but you know they won’t last and you’ll tire of them. That cheap table you have your eye on – how long will it last before being discarded to a landfill site?

Stick with me and discover fantastic, green, sustainable, eco-friendly brands who offer products that are not only beautiful (to give you that shopping high!) but are also better for our world.

Looking for sustainable, consciously crafted products for the home?

The Future Kept is a collection of consciously crafted, responsibly sourced, sustainable and ethical products for your home, to encourage a more eco-friendly lifestyle.

Nestled on the south coast of England and headed up by Jeska and Dean Hearne, The Future Kept design and collaborate with independent designers, makers and artisans who are creating products that are better for our world, becoming part of your life story, forming an intimacy between you and your belongings, to cherish and keep.

They provide quality goods with an honest provenance that they use in their day-to-day lives, items made to last that will not fuel the throwaway nature of the modern world, heirlooms of the future. Like me, they also hope to inspire a curiosity and desire within people to make more sustainable and ethical choices. Creating and seeking beautifully considered, functional items for others to enjoy is their passion and by sharing these items, their aim is to connect and form relationships with like-minded folk, whilst having a positive impact on the environment.

The Future Kept – 1% for the planet

If you wanted another reason to choose The Future Kept, then this may persuade you…

“We are now proud to be part of the 1% for the Planet global movement and have committed to give 1% of all sales directly to environmental not for profit groups whose focus is the protection, preservation and restoration of our planet”. This means every time you purchase from us, 1% of the total value of your order goes directly to help an environmental cause. 1% of sales is a more transparent way to give, it can often be greater than a 10 or 20% ‘profit’ (running a business to make a profit is never easy!) and we want all our wonderful customers to know that all your purchases from us will directly help our planet”.

What do they offer?

Their products range from blankets and bags to ceramics and candles and each product has passed the sustainability test! Prefer to browse by collection? You won’t be disappointed, there are wonderful goods for the following:

  • Plant lovers (me!!)

  • Vegan friendly (one day me!)

  • For the table (where I can often be found :-)!)

  • Cruelty free beauty (abso-bloody-lutely!)

  • Made in the UK (less transmissions)

  • Eco friendly (of course)

  • Made by Hand (support independent makers)

Check them out for yourselves and when it’s next treat time, head here instead of down the high street. You can even combine it with your next hygge time – make a nice hot cuppa, light the candles, pop on Game of Thrones or a movie and browse the collections. The time you have saved not popping down the high street means you can squeeze in some yoga or a walk. Bonus!

And just because I love them…

Their branding is like a little piece of heaven for me – all natures colours and stunning landscape photography. Makes me want to don my hiking boots and go exploring in those forests!
